About the Artist

Rashmi Thakur is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. Working across watercolors, oils, acrylics, and textile arts, she creates evocative works that blend representational, design, and abstract elements. Inspired by her multicultural background, a deep appreciation for nature, and diverse global influences, Rashmi explores themes of identity, cultural narratives, resilience, and contemporary social issues. Drawing from extensive travels across continents, she captures the intersection of tradition and modernity through vibrant landscapes, urban scenes, and expressive portraits. Her work invites viewers to reflect on the shared human experience, fostering a deeper appreciation of our interconnectedness and the beauty found in everyday life.

Born and raised in Mumbai, India, Rashmi's artistic talents were recognized early through competitive art certifications and rigorous artistic training. She pursued formal studies at Sir J.J. School of Arts in Mumbai and later expanded her creative foundation through advanced education in fashion styling and design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Since relocating to the vibrant city of Austin in 2015, Rashmi has established a strong presence within the local and regional art community. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions and is represented by galleries throughout Central Texas. She has participated in juried exhibitions evaluated by internationally acclaimed artists and has received several honors, including international recognition in a juried competition hosted by the City of Paestum, Italy.

Beyond her studio practice, Rashmi is deeply committed to arts education and community engagement.  She is the founder of Art Chakra, she has taught and mentored students of all ages, fostering creativity, mindfulness, and artistic confidence. She has led workshops for organizations including the Waterloo Watercolor Group, ArtusCo Gallery, Creative Arts Society and  Bee Caves Foundation . She currently serves as President of the Waterloo Watercolor Group as it approaches its 50th anniversary in 2027. Through her artistic practice, leadership, and dedication to education, Rashmi continues to inspire meaningful dialogue, creative growth, and lasting human connection.
